7 Times Older Friends: Darcy and Hemingway
Children gone? Get pets. This is Darcy, my constant companion for 14 years, and Hemingway (named after Ernest) our Maltese Yorkie (Morkie) (about two years old). They generally get along great except when Hemingway decides to chase Darcy around which Darcy largely tolerates.
We named him after Ernest Hemingway because we want him to have great adventures.

Assignment
Time for one of my favourite photography subjects-Animals. You could opt for a portrait style well-crafted image or freeze movement to show an action shot. Domesticated household pals or creatures that just won't fit on your living room couch. You could go big and approach the shot from a low angle to give a sense of majesty or perhaps hone your macro chops and get up close and personal with insects and tiny creatures. It doesn't matter if you're in the city or out in the boonies - there are animals everywhere and grabbing a great photo will be a technical test as well as an exercise in patience, creativity and a wee bit of luck to get that one in a million shot. You'll need to be able to adapt quickly to changing lighting and weather conditions if you're outdoors and hopefully get a properly focused and sharp image. Be prepared to take lots of shots. The end result will be immensely rewarding and something you'll be proud to keep in your portfolio. And remember the Nature Photographer's adage: Kill only time; Take only memories; Leave only footprints.
